Spring Call 2024: Postdoctoral fellowships to support talent development in Danish research

Each year, the Carlsberg Foundation allocates substantial funds for young researchers in the form of various types of postdoctoral fellowships.

The foundation currently has open calls for Internationalisation Fellowships for stays at international research institutions and Visiting Fellowships at the University of Oxford.

With these postdoctoral calls, the foundation’s specific aim is to support young researchers’ opportunities to undertake longer research stays abroad. The foundation furthermore wishes to contribute to the ongoing internationalisation of Danish research.

Internationalisation Fellowships

Internationalisation Fellowships are aimed at applicants who wish to undertake an uninterrupted research stay outside Denmark lasting one or two years. The flexibility in the length of stay has been introduced to recognise the fact that, for a variety of reasons, it can be a challenge planning a postdoctoral research stay abroad.

For the first time, applicants may apply for Internationalisation Fellowships even if they have not yet submitted or defended a PhD thesis as long as this will be in place before the planned stay abroad. 

Visiting Fellowships at the University of Oxford

Visiting Fellowships at the University of Oxford are aimed at applicants who wish to undertake a two-year stay at one of Europe’s elite universities. The purpose of the fellowships is to give promising Danish research talents experience of an elite university that they can later utilise upon their return to Denmark to the benefit of Danish research and their own future career.

Visiting Fellowships at the University of Oxford can be applied for in the Spring Call 2024, which has an application deadline of 4 pm CET on 1 April. This is the last time that this specific funding instrument will be available for applications, as the programme will be discontinued after 1 April.

Strong connection to Danish research required

In order to be considered for both Internationalisation Fellowships and Visiting Fellowships at the University of Oxford, the applicant must document a prior strong connection to Danish research.
